How a company credit score is calculated

Your company credit score is worked out from the information held about your business, weighed up to judge how likely you are to pay on time. The biggest drivers are usually:

  • Filed accounts profitability, net worth and how complete and timely your filings are.
  • Payment behaviour how promptly you settle suppliers, where that data is held.
  • Public records county court judgments and insolvency-related notices.
  • Trading history how long the business has traded and its size.
  • Trend whether turnover and results are rising, steady or falling.
  • Sector the typical risk level of your industry.

Free score check FAQs

Is this free company credit score check really free?

Yes. The self-assessment is free and needs no sign-up, email or payment. It runs entirely in your browser and nothing you enter is saved. It gives an illustrative score only; your real, data-driven score comes from the Company Insight Report on your own company.

How accurate is the illustrative score?

It is an estimate based only on the answers you give, designed to show how the main factors move a score. A real company credit score is calculated from filed accounts, payment records and public data, so treat this as a guide rather than your actual rating.

Will checking my score here affect it?

No. This is a self-assessment that calculates a figure locally from your answers; it does not contact any credit reference agency and does not leave a footprint of any kind on your company's record.

How do I get my real company credit score?

Order a Company Insight Report on your own company. It shows your actual credit score, risk band and suggested credit limit, and the factors driving them, drawn from the latest data held about your business. The report is provided by First Report.
